Continuing off from where my wife and I last stopped (start of Turn 6):Her new hand of cards contained scoring cards for Africa and South America, which she played as the last two cards of the turn. She prevented me from dominating Africa, though I had the extra Action Round to place Influence in South America which allowed me to dominate the region in time for scoring.
We spent a good part of the next turn contending over the Middle East region, with me closing out Israel, Jordan and the Gulf States and cutting her out of Syria and Egypt with "Voice of America", while she got back at me with "Muslim Revolution" on Jordan. Though I was able to re-establish control in Jordan soon after, I was not able to take advantage of "Sadat Expels Soviets" to gain inroads in Egypt which she quickly recovered with a successful coup.
At this point, we were even in Africa and Central America, though she held the firm advantage in Europe and the Middle East while I had South America and Asia. My wife quickly expanded her presence in Africa through Algeria and Kenya and rolled extremely well for coups in Cameroon and Zaire, which would have made it more difficult for me to contend in the continent if not for "Colonial Rearguards" which helped me net Sudan, Ethopia and subsequently Somalia. I switched my focus to the Americas where I was confident of establishing total control. With some help from a second appearance of "Voice of America", I quickly emptied Honduras, Nicaragua and Colombia of USSR influence though she re-secured the first two countries in the subsequent Action Round.
The game ended at the start of turn 8 when I played the Asia Scoring card as the Headline Event, thereby netting me the exact number of VPs needed for a USA win. Despite this, my wife was really getting into the game, though she hadn’t seen the Late War cards before so I felt bad ending the game as I did. She is interested in playing again, so I hope we can reach there in our next play :)
