Thread: Twilight Struggle:: General:: Really confused about balance - playing with Deluxe no optional cards, no CCW, no extra inf.

I've played 16 games of TS so far, I think, and I've only won 3. These 3 have been recent wins, and 2 of them due to my opponent committing Defcon Suicide through just not concentrating enough, rather than any great skill on my part(The last game, she forgot I'd couped Iran at DC3 and then played Olympic Games in T3 for the event on her next round).

I've been primarily playing the US, and I've done some research about tactics etc, and I'm not unhappy with my level of skill so far - I still have a lot to learn and even losing is huge fun.

But I was starting to get a bit concerned at my results. 13 to 3 is pretty bad, especially considering I'm the only player in my group of friends who owns the game and who seems to do any online research into how to play.

Yesterday a friend and I couldn't get Vassal to work, so we tried the wargameroom.com version, and I noticed in the setup that there was an option to play with extra inf at setup for the US player.

I'm wondering if the game is unbalanced to a high degree against the US as it is the way we're playing. We play the deluxe version, with no optional cards (yet) and with the China Card in play at the start (No CCW variant).

I tried to look through the forums for a clear answer, but all I could find was stuff about leagues and tournament and bids etc, which I don't fully understand.

Can someone explain to me how balanced the game is under the conditions we're playing it? Should we be usinga different setup than the default given in the rulebook?
