I think a major factor it TS's high ranking is how well it invokes the feeling of the era.During one game, at the start of a turn I thought to myself (The Africa scoring card should be coming up soon), my opponent's first play was to flip Angola. The alarm bells went off in my head. We spent the entire turn trying to tip the balance in Africa. The entire continent was swept up in a whirlwind of massive influence and coups.
It turns out neither of us had the card. My opponent guessed I had it and played defensively, which caused me to think she had it, so I retaliated. We both laughed at how useless all that effort was.
The next turn she went first again, then promptly flipped South Africa and smiled at me.
