So far, thank you all for your answers.

The first question has been answered completely, and I take it that I got it right first time around. Meaning that you play underlined and asterisked cards as usual, and place them next to the board when appropriate - otherwise remove them from the game immediately. Effects will take place (and continue to do so, where appropriate), whether the card is removed or not...
...thank you all for confirming this.

The second question seems to have differences in opinion on what is better - Optional Cards or Chinese Civil War. But, as I take it, it is an either/or situation, regarding balance, and the game would be imbalanced again (this time in US favor), if you would include both.
Still, the matter of which is better has not really been answered (how can it), so I'd still like to hear your (and other posters) input on that. Which one to use, and (if possible to answer) why do you think it better than the other option?

I am in the fortuitous situation to have the Deluxe Edition that does not come with an errata slip or replacement cards, but has all the Errata and corrected cards included from the get-go. In order to make sure, I checked all the changes (from first to second edition, as well as the changes in the three cards). But thank you for bringing my attention to this, Christopher.

And finally, Ken, that is not a problem at all. Answering questions makes me feel like I actually bring something to the table, a table, any table, and someone else can profit from what I know. So ask away, either in the fora or in PMs. Hope you'll get your copy of this awesome game (Polis) soon.
